The CLG Origin Story
How did CLG come together?
Well, the conference still needs to happen lol but we wanted to share part of the origin story with you!
This is from David’s point of view too. Zach likely has a different story!
In 2024, Zach and David had BOTH been hosting events for community builders.
David hosted four C3 micro-conferences for community builders and creators in 2024.
Here is a video from the first one in March 2024.
I think Zach attended two of them.
In fact, they recorded a video clip together that was included in a later podcast episode at the November 2024 C3 micro-conference.
September 2025
As part of his birthday, David hosted a podcast dinner party event that Zach attended. At the event, David shared about his recent work transition. Zach offered to help and shared some ideas about potentially collaborating on a big event together!
After that event, David and Zach met for coffee to build-upon this idea. They kept riffing and slowly moved the idea forward.
Two things then occurred for CLG to happen:
Zach started talking seriously with The Malin about their new conference space at their new Chelsea location
David hosted an event in mid-December and Zach was there, reigniting their prior dialogue about collaborating together
At the December event, David shared that he had capacity for new projects. Zach mentioned his venue discussions and that he was serious about hosting a conference in early 2026.
And then boom, eventually, CLG on Friday March 13th was born!
