We are excited to share a new podcast episode for you!
This podcast episode was first published on David’s Portfolio Career podcast.
It was recorded at our first event connected to the CLG conference in late January with community builders talking about community-led growth.
In addition to listening to it above and here, you can read some of the takeaways of the episode here:
Feb 1: Insights From 1/30 CLG Event
On Friday Jan 30th, Zach and David cohosted a CLG podcast dinner party.
Last Night’s Conference Pep Rally
Speaking of pre-conference connection, our second event leading up to the CLG conference happened last night.
It was called a conference pep rally.
The goal of the Jan event and last night’s event was to build connection and community in advance of our March conference.
And we think it is working!
Thank you to Hailee at The Malin for the “pep rally” naming help and for hosting us.
The CLG Conference is going to be held at another Malin location.
Here are a few other things that we learned last night:
Grocery store deliveries via Uber Eats are a little bit unreliable if you need something to arrive at a specific time. When in doubt, pick the food up if you can. We made it work but it was a little bit stressful.
Committing to the bit usually goes really well. We really tried to lean into the “pep rally” theme. We had clappers, beads, sunglasses, and tattoos, and a foam finger. I think this helped create a “temporary alternative world” as Priya Parker talks about.
When you host a conference related event, the stakes are higher than a normal event.
We could’ve done a better job indicating who has purchased a CLG conference ticket already and who has not.
All this being said, based on messages that we have gotten already, this pep rally was a big success in helping build community and connection in advance of the conference.
We would love to see more conferences and community builders do things like this.
We are doing it and you can do it too!
See you at CLG,
David and Zach
